New Year Resolutions

It's that time of year again!

To me, New Year's is a time of reflection.  What did I accomplish?  What didn't work out?  What can I do better? I don't make resolutions anymore, I make plans to make my life better!  Losing weight, stopping that bad habit you have, checking off those things on your bucket list, or whatever your resolution may be for 2012 may be, are great ideas but they are also daunting life changes if you don't know what you're doing.  Life changes require a plan that has small steps.  You feel more motivated when you complete the small things and sometimes you get towards your goal faster with a plan than without one.  If you stumble, it's okay!  Just get back up and get some people to support you on your journey!

Resolutions can also mean enhancements to your life such as finding a new hobby or restarting an old one you enjoy.  It may me as simple as being a better friend, partner, or family member. All you need to do is come with a plan to incorporate it into your life.  If it's important to you, you'll make a way to pencil in time for it.

How do you make a plan?  Well, write down what you want to do.  It makes your goals more concrete.  Then write down what you have to do to make the change.  If you don't know what you're doing, research it!  Google is a wonderful tool! Ask a friend! If a friend has the same resolution as you do, that's even better!  Work on a plan together and check each other as you move along.  If you're really stumped, find a professional such as a therapist to help you.  Therapists help everyday people if a bind as well as people with clinical mental illness you know!

The most important this is to enjoy the journey!  You only live once!  Take this opportunity of the New Year and do something different!  You make like it!

Happy New Year!
